| At 1650 hours Task Force 16 (Station 16, Engine 1512, Squad 51, and BLS 1557) was dispatched to 740 Merrick Avenue for a reported dwelling fire. 1512 responded under the command of Lieutenant Bob Callahan and while companies were responding they were advised the caller was reporting a bedroom fire.
Collingswood Chief Keith Davis arrived on location and reported a 2 ½ story dwelling with heavy smoke showing from the 2nd floor. Squad 16 arrived and stretched an 1 ¾" hand line for fire suppression. Squad 16 obtained their own water supply. Chief Davis then transmitted the "All-Hands" signal bringing Ladder 15-1, Ladder 1324 and Cascade 11-4.
Engine 1512 arrived and stretched a secondary hand line to the attic of the dwelling. Interior crews found a fire in a second floor bedroom with zero visibility. 1512 opened up the attic area and found no extension. Squad 51 assisted Squad 16 and then secured the utilities. Ladder 15-1 responded under the command of Lieutenant John Vernon and upon arrival provided salvage and overhaul of the 1st floor.
With all visible fire knocked down and no extension noted Chief Davis placed the fire under control. Companies remained on scene assisting Collingswood with equipment pickup before being released. |
