WHO IS STEVEN?
Steven and his brother Matthew
Steven Potter is an energetic 15 year old teenager who lives with Type 3 Spinal Muscular Atrophy. SMA is a recessive genetic neuromuscular disease that destroys the nerves that control voluntary movement, which affects sitting, crawling, walking, and even swallowing. It is the number one genetic killer of children under the age of two and 50% of those diagnosed before the age of two will not celebrate their second birthday. One of 38 people is carriers of the SMA gene and SMA can strike anyone of any age or ethnicity.
Steven is a sophomore at Haddon Township High School in Haddon Township,NJ. His favorite sport is playing sled hockey for the Wings of Steel Sled Hockey team in Voorhees,NJ.
