The Westmont Fire Company No.1 hosted their annual Fire Prevention Open House on October 3rd. The event provided an opportunity for residents to tour the firehouse, view the fire trucks and equipment used by Firefighters and EMT's. Surrounding fire companies also displayed apparatus from there respective stations. Over 1,000 residents came out and showed support for the fire company and learned many valuable lessons about fire prevention and safety.

Fire prevention materials such as helmets, stickers, potholders and other fun items were given out to children and adults of all ages. Demonstrations such as vehicle extrication and rappelling were done by our firefighters. The Camden County Fire Marshals Office provided the smoke trailer to simulate how smoke can fill a room and shows the use and necessity of working smoke detectors. PSE&G provided a Wires and Fires class that showed the residents exactly how dangerous live power lines can be and what to do if one were to fall near your residence.

Kids young and old were able to handle a hose line to flow water from a fire hydrant. Residents also had the chance to use a Thermal Imaging Camera to really get a hands-on look at the equipment the Fire Company uses.

Inside the engine room, our 1929 Ahrens-Fox pumper was on display as it is the "Pride of the Fleet".
