The Westmont Fire Company would like to wish a very special Happy Birthday to our oldest Ladies Auxiliary member, Charlotte Bart, who is turning 100 this year!! Charlotte P. Bart is a life-long resident of Westmont, New Jersey. Charlotte’s life is one well lived. Charlotte enlisted in the United States Coast Guard in 1944 where she was a member of the transportation unit and achieved the rank of 1st Class in only 18 months. Charlotte was the first woman in District 5 to serve alongside of her husband.

Following her military service Charlotte went on to raise three Children: Dianna, Bill Jr., & Rodney which led to 5 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, & 2 great-great-grandchildren!

In 1966 Charlotte was inducted into the Collingswood Hall of Fame for her Athletic accomplishments. Throughout her life Charlotte has been an avid swimmer and diver, often working as a lifeguard as well as a lifeguard instructor. She also excelled at field hockey and basketball. In 1975 she began a career in nursing, as an LPN, spending much of her time working with differently abled children until she retired.

These days Charlotte spends her time volunteering with the Coast Guards Combat Veterans Organization, The American Legion, and The Westmont Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. We at the Westmont Fire Company are particularly grateful for her decades of service! She is the resident expert hot pepper prepper at our monthly hoagie sales.

Outside of her service to others Charlotte is the Philadelphia Phillies & Eagles biggest fan. You won’t catch her out without her designer Philadelphia Eagles purse this football season. Should you be so lucky to watch a game with Charlotte be prepared for her loud and assertive commentary throughout the whole game.

At her surprise 100th birthday party, Haddon Township Mayor Randall Teague presented Charlotte with a Proclamation proclaiming October 2nd “Charlotte Craig Bart Day”, she received another Proclamation from the Camden County Board of Commissioners, and accommodations from an Admiral of the United States Coast Guard!!

Charlotte’s memory is still sharp as ever, constantly checking in with loved ones, thoughtfully asking about their lives. She is known to have a wonderful sense of humor, a love of baking, and prefers an Old Fashion with muddled fruit.

Thank you for sharing your life and kindness with us all throughout the years, Happy 100th Birthday Charlotte!
