Carlton Avenue "All Hands" Dwelling Fire

At 0442 hours Station 15-1 was dispatched to 6 Carlton Avenue for a reported dwelling fire.

Camden County Communications was receiving multiple calls reporting fire showing from the residence. At 0444 hours Haddon Township Police arrived on location and reported heavy fire conditions from the front of the residence.

At 0445 hours Battalion 15 responded and reported fire showing from blocks away and transmitted the “All Hands”. Battalion 15 arrived on location and reported a 1 ½ story dwelling with heavy fire showing from the front of the residence and through the roof and advised Squirt 15-1 to lay in from the hydrant at the corner of Haddon and Carlton.

Squirt 15-1 responded at 0446 hours and went into operation with a 2 ½” hand line for fire suppression upon arrival. Ladder 15-1 responded at 0449 hours and upon arrival assisted Squirt 15-1 with fire suppression efforts.

Engine 1512 arrived on location and obtained a secondary water supply. Companies knocked the bulk of the fire down and transitioned from a defensive attack into an offensive attack and an 1 ¾” hand line was stretched to the rear.

A primary and secondary search of the residence was completed and all searched proved negative. Companies on the interior reported fire conditions in the attic area which was quickly knocked down.

Squad 14 arrived and assumed the RIT function and once all visible fire was knocked down, the crew then assisted interior crews with opening up and checking for extension.

Companies operated on scene extinguishing hot spots and with no additional extension noted the fire was placed under control at 0523 hours.

The scene was turned over to the Haddon Township Fire Marshal’s Office.
