By Lieutenant/EMT Dan Devitt
February 22, 2010
At 1204 hours Task Force 16 (Station 16-1 and Squad 5-1) were dispatched to 1114 Newton Avenue in the West Collingswood Extension for a reported dwelling fire. Chief John Amet, Captain Keith Davis and Squad Company 16 under the command of Lieutenant Ed Glaze responded after dispatch and were being advised that Police were on location reporting a working house fire.
Chief Amet arrived on location at 1209 hours and confirmed the police report. Chief Amet reported he had a 2-story dwelling with heavy smoke showing. Squad 16 arrived and led off with an 1 ¾" handline for fire suppression. Chief Amet then transmitted the "All-Hands" signal bringing Ladder 15-1 and MASK Services 11-4 (Pennsauken).
Squad 5-1 arrived and stretched a secondary handline for fire suppression. Command requested an additional Ladder Company to the scene. Ladder 15-1 responded under the command of Assistant Chief Mike Vitelli and upon arrival assisted interior crews with opening up and extinguishment. Quint 1-1 (Audubon) arrived and went to the roof to open up.
Command advised Communications that the bulk of the fire was knocked down and the primary and secondary searched proved negative. Command then placed the fire under control with no injuries reported.
