By Lieutenant/EMT Dan Devitt
January 29, 2010
At 0836 hours Station 15-1 and BLS 1557 were dispatched to 13 Reeve Avenue for a reported dwelling fire. 15101 (Medes) and 15103 (Vitelli) signed on after dispatch and were advised that police were reporting a "working" fire.
Assistant Chief Mike Vitelli arrived on location and reported a 2 1/2-story dwelling with heavy smoke on the 1st floor and for Squirt 15-1 to take the hydrant at Haddon and Reeve and lay in. Squirt 15-1 responded under the command of Captain John Young and upon arrival established a water supply and led off with an 1 3/4" hand line for fire suppression. Assistant Chief Vitelli then transmitted the "All-Hands" signal bringing Squad 16 (Collingswood FD). Chief John Medes arrived and assumed command.
Ladder 15-1 responded under the command of Lieutenant Jim Heckers. Interior crews reported a fire in a rear bedroom which was extinguished by the crew of Squirt 15-1. The crew of Ladder 15-1 assisted with opening up windows to vent smoke from the dwelling.
Engine 1512 responded under the command of Lieutenant Bob Callahan and upon arrival assisted Ladder 15-1's crew.
Chief Medes then placed the fire under control at the ten minute mark. The fire is under investigation by the Camden County and Haddon Township Fire Marshal's Office.
