April 15, 2019

It is with deep regret that Westmont Fire Company announces the passing of lifelong member Fire Police Captain Joseph William Kite, who passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2019, at the age of 94, in Missouri, surrounded by his loving family.

Joe was the beloved husband of the late Beverly (nee Truster) and Mildred (nee Zimmerman). Longtime beloved companion of Charlotte Bart of Haddon Township. Dear brother of the late Julia Robinson. Loving father of Joseph Kite (Barbara) of Lake Lafayette, MO and Johanna Walter (Barry) of Haddon Twp., NJ. Proud grandfather of Holly Leininger, Ronald Kite, Scott Kite, Brian Kite, Lindsay Alvarado. Adoring great grandfather of twelve. Also survived by many nieces & nephews.

During WWII Joe served in the 6th Marine division in Brazil, Okinawa, and lastly in China where he served as fire chief in the city of Suzhou. The proudest Marine you'd ever meet, Joe stayed active in various veteran organizations until the end of his life including the Oaklyn VFW and the China Burma India Veterans Association. He was also a Master Mason of the Haddonfield Masonic Temple and a member of the Scottish Rite.

Joe was a lifelong member of Westmont Fire Company and served as Chief of the Camden County Fire Police. When the fire whistle blew you knew that Joe, in a vehicle with flashing lights, would be headed out on the call. It was his dedication and passion for serving others that will be remembered the most.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Visitation Saturday, April 20th from 1 to 2 PM at the Westmont Fire Company No. 1, 120 Haddon Avenue in Haddon Twp., NJ., his Memorial Service will follow at 2 PM.
Interment will be private.
