By Captain/EMT Dan Devitt
March 17, 2018

At 2005 Hours Station 15-1 was dispatched to 270 New Jersey Avenue for a reported dwelling fire. Battalion 15 (Capt. Dan Devitt) responded and was given the report that Police were on location with a detached garage on fire close to a dwelling.

Squirt 15-1 responded under the command of Lt. Matt Medes and was given the same report. Battalion 15 arrived on location and reported a detached garage fully involved with multiple exposures and requested the “All Hands” be transmitted which brought Squad 16 (Collingswood) and Squad 14 (Haddonfield) to the scene.

Squirt 15-1 arrived and led off with a 1 ¾” hand line for fire suppression. Ladder 15-1 responded under the command of Capt. John Young and upon arrival stretched a back up hand line and started to check the exposures to the Bravo and Charlie side of the garage.

Squirt 15-1 obtained their own water supply with assistance of the operator of Ladder 15-1. Engine 1512 responded under the command of Assistant Chief Moore and arrived simultaneously with Squad 16 and assisted companies with checking for extension.

Rescue 15-1 responded under the command of Lt John Vernon and provided scene lighting for the operation. Squad 14 while responding to the assignment was redirected to a reported MVA on Haddon Avenue.

At 2020 hours Battalion 15 placed the fire under control. Companies remained on location hitting hot spots and overhauling. Squad 14 after clearing the accident was redirected to Station 15-1 for the cover. The assignment was reduced down to Squirt 15-1 and the Haddon Township Fire Marshal.

The fire is under investigation by the Haddon Township Fire Marshal’s Office.
