Basement Fire on East Holly Avenue

At 1915 hours Task Force 15-3 (Station 15-1, Squad 16, BLS 1557) was dispatched to 106 East Holly Avenue for a reported dwelling fire. Chief Medes (15101) signed on immediately after dispatch and was advised that the caller reported the house filling with smoke and everyone was getting out.

Squirt 15-1 signed on radio responding with 4 under the command of Lieutenant John Vernon simultaneously with Squad Company 16 (Collingswood FD). Chief Medes arrived on location and was advised that Police were reporting fire in the rear of the dwelling. Squad 16 arrived and stretched an 1 ¾" hand line for fire attack and Squirt 15-1 arrived simultaneously and obtained a water supply for Squad 16.

Chief Medes advised Squad 16 that there were fire conditions in the basement and they were gaining access. Ladder 15-1 responded under the command of Lieutenant Bob Callahan and upon arrival stretched a 2nd 1 ¾" hand line to the first floor. Engine 1512 responded under the command of Lieutenant Dan Devitt and upon arrival opened up on the 1st and 2nd floors.

Squad 16 reported to Command that the fire conditions in the basement were knocked down and Companies were opening up. 1st floor crews report fire extension to the kitchen and outside wall of the first floor with a hand line operating knocking the fire down and opening up. At the 10 minute mark Command reported 2 hand lines operating with companies making good progress and opening up. Rescue 15-1 responded under the command of Firefighter Bob Casey and upon arrival, the crew assisted interior crews with opening up and checking for extension.

Chief Medes placed the fire under control at 1932 hours. Companies remained on location knocking down hotspots and assisting the Fire Marshal. No injuries were reported.

The fire is under investigation by the Camden County Prosecutors Office.
